Do you know many forests in Lithuania where you wouldn't find a clearcut or a single type of planted forest within a two-hour walk?
The Meteliai region is rich in this regard. The last large-scale clear-cutting in the Trakas forest, located between the town of Seiriyai and Lake Dusia, was carried out 40 years ago.
In 1960, the Trakai Forest was declared a botanical reserve. Now the central part of the forest is protected as a reserve, while the rest falls under the zoological-botanical reserve.
You will see the most beautiful corners of Trakas Forest if you join the hiking tour "Dwarves and Giants of Trakas Forest" on January 4 (Saturday).
- Meeting point: Meteliai Regional Visitor Center, Seirijų g. 2, Meteliai village from 10:30 to 11:00. We will travel to the hike by our own transport.
- REQUIRED registration: call 8 601 55716 (Artūras) or write a Facebook message to the profile "Meteliai regionalinis parkas", indicating the date and number of participants.
- Participation fee: only 5 EUR, and for schoolchildren, students and seniors – 2.5 EUR! Children under 7 years old – free!
Would you like to go hiking, but the time is not right? No problem. On December 28th, we will be wandering through the Kalniškės forest.
