Lithuanian Partisan Tomb (Lazdijai Cemetery)

The struggle for freedom

On 03/17/1945, soldiers of the 94th border detachment of the NKVD army together with the NKVD Seinų district found a group of partisans in the Muckaus homestead, Strumbagalvė village, Rudamina district, Lazdija district. Rudamina vlsč. sub-division stragglers. According to some reports, 12 partisans of the DLK Mindaugas group of the Šarūnas (?) national team were killed while fighting the enemies. Others - only 5. Among them, the following are known: squad leader Leonas Kliukinskas-Levas, g. in 1912 Mockavas village, Sangrudas vlsč., dab. Marijampolė sav. Partisan since 1944; Antanas Miknevičius, g. in 1916; Jurgis Misiukevičius, st. in 1927 Rūdninkai village, Marijampolė municipality; Viktoras Trečiokas-Liutas, g. 1917 (1918?) Mergutrakis (Sangrūdas?) village, Sangrūdas vlsč., Marijampole municipality. Former Lithuanian policeman, partisan from 1944-1945; Jonas Zimnickas, b. in 1912 Mockava village, Marijampole municipality. Partisans were despised in Lazdijai. After the restoration of Lithuania's independence, the remains were moved from the burial place to this cemetery.
