The Museum of Freedom Struggles is located in the so-called White Petrauskas House, where the NKVD, KGB and other structures operated. Authentic torture chambers of those who fought for Lithuania's freedom have survived in the basement of the building - using modern technology, they preserve memories and convey the feeling of horror experienced by our people. On two floors of the building, with great care, preserving and nurturing historical memory, interactive exhibitions that will engage everyone have been installed. The sounds heard, stories, post-war songs, and the intertwining images of the past and present seen in aged mirrors are breathtaking and cannot leave anyone indifferent. As the mayor of Lazdijai district, Ausma MiškinienÄ, said on the opening day: "to open the door of the cell where those who fought for Lithuania's freedom were imprisoned and hear the cry, to recognize the face... To look through the keyhole and see the horror of the freedom struggle... To pick up the phone and, while listening to stories of tragic fate, to feel infinite gratitude for the fact that we are free..."
The museum hosts educational activities on the history of partisan battles and exile. It can host history lessons, education, seminars, and various events.
The museum's expositions envelop visitors with exhibits, sounds, and stories reminiscent of dramatic events. The unique museum building, original design, and meaningful, never-before-seen exhibition presentation solutions. The Museum of Freedom Struggles should become one of the most meaningful and popular educational tourism attractions in our region.
