The struggle for freedom

In the Grauži manor, Antanas Čeponis homestead, the partisans of the Mindaugas patrimony of the Šarūnas district of Dainava district, led by Jurgis Gylios-Kalniaus, g. in 1915 Galstų village, 1947-01-26 fought with a unit of the 34th rifle regiment of the MVD army, commander Lt. Belorybkino. The partisans of the Mindaugas homeland were killed: Antanas Zdanavičius-Viltis, g. in 1926 Gražuliu village, Seiriju district, seriously injured Andrius Neifalta-Gintaras, g. in 1921 Giraitėlių village, Seiriju vlsč., died two days later. Partisan Eugenija Krušinskaitė-Aguona was injured in the fighting. The owner of the homestead, A. Čeponis, was arrested. Note: according to the recollections of witnesses, about 30 partisans came to the homestead on horses. The partisans asked Jonas Strenkauskas (from Vaickūniškės) to bring a priest to the sick partisan Ona Saveikyte-Neuzmirštuola (she had just given birth to a child). After the priest left, the house was surrounded by enemies. Prelate Juozas Laukaitis, who performed the rites, was betrayed, arrested, and died in the camp. In the same Grauži manor, according to the data obtained by the agent Rūpestėlis, the military operative group of the Seirijui subdivision of the MGB surrounded the homestead of Pranas Kašelionis at dawn on 08/19/1948. When the partisans staying at the homestead fought with the enemies, 3 partisans of the Juozapavičiaus group of the Šarūnas district of Dainava district were killed: platoon leader (leader of the Mindaugas homeland?), Antanas Muliuolis-Gruodis, g. 1920, Buteliūnai village, department commander Antanas Motiejūnas-Šamas, g. in 1922 Paliūņu village, (the last two burned in a hiding place-bunker; the remains have not been examined), Mečislovas Dainauskas-Miškinis, g. in 1923 Seiriju Colony village. The owner of the homestead, Pranas Kašelionis, was also killed. in 1914 Straigiškės village, the house burned down. The bodies of the fallen partisans were taken to Seirijus, near the MGB headquarters in the village. After the restoration of Lithuania's independence, a monument to the partisans who fought and died for the freedom of this land was erected in the Seiriju cemetery, with their names and surnames listed.
