The struggle for freedom

In the village of Kirtiliškės, near the Grėbliūnai farmstead, on 19/01/1949, 8 of the partisans of the 18th Šarūnas platoon of Dainava district of the Mindaugas group were killed in the fighting with the MGB unit (9 operatives, 30 soldiers and 50 stragglers), which lasted for 2 hours: Šarūnas platoon head of the communications department and head of the headquarters of the Mindaugas homeland Jonas Jančė-Kovas, g. 1926, Neravau village, dab. Lazdija district, partisan since 12/03/1946, Jonas Janulevičius-Lašas, g. in 1928 Grikapali village, dab. Lazdija district, partisan since 11/24/1948, killed in the neighboring village of Nemajunai, Pranas Kliučinskas, g. in 1928 Avižienieu, Zigmas Lisauskas-Kancleris (?), g. in 1921 Kantrinciškės village, office Lazdiju district, Antanas Maksimavičius-Mauras, g. 1920 Akmenių k., dab. Lazdija district, partisan since 06/03/1948, Jonas Navickas-Šernas, g. in 1923 Dirži village, dab. Lazdiju district, partisan since 1944, Juozas Riškevičius-Varnėnas, g. in 1922 Neravu village, partisan since 10/09/1948, escaped from the Soviet army. Note: Vladas Smalinskas-Ulonas, st. Straigiu k., dab. Lazdiju district, after leaving Kirtiliškė village. battles, died in the neighboring village of Nemajūnai.
